(c) Write a paragraph on the topic : ‘Evil of cheating’.
Ans. Cheating in examinations has become a very common thing. The scene outside an examination hall can give a clear indication of what is going on inside. There is a crowd of people and each one is busy tearing pages from books or writing answers to be smuggled into the hall. Sometimes even teachers and parents are seen involved in it. How shameful ! These people never pause to chink what good they are doing to anyone. What example they are setting for others ! Recently the Secretary, Board of School Education, Haryana, has done a great job to eradicate this evil. He has taken a number of hard steps which have been quite successful. The deployment of police force outside each examination hall has been helpful to keep the outsiders far away from the examination centres. The local Principal and Headmaster have been asked to see that no teacher tries to help in this cheating. Anybody found doing it is threatened with immediate suspension. Flying squads are sent at random for a surprise checking of the centres. All these steps are laudable and have been welcomed by one and all.
(d) Write a paragraph on the topic : ‘My Visit to A Hill Station’.
Ans. I visited Mussoorie every year during the summer vacation. I was satisfied with that Mussoorie was known as the Queen of Hill stations. I have also visited several other hill stations such as Ooty, Dalhousie, Kasauli, Nainital and Gulmarg.
Last year, a change occurred in my schedule. It so happened that my lovable uncle who makes much of me was transferred to Shimla and took a promise from me that I would visit him during the summer vacation. He is a forest ranger.
Accordingly, I went to Shimla in May last year when the plains were hot like a cauldron on the burning oven. As I reached there, I was surprised to find the weather there. A cool breeze was blowing. The sky was overcast with clouds. Soon, there was drizzling. But the weather cleared within a few minutes.
I had a walk in the Mall and also in the forest area. On the Mall, I had a talk within some tourists. In the forest area, I saw gushing rivulets and springs. The lush green pine trees were a sight to see. Birds were chirping on all sides. I was glad to see hills and valleys covered with flowers. I also visited Kufri and Jakhu Temple.
I stayed at Shimla for about a month. I gained a lot in health. I can never forget my visit to Shimla.

SET–C (Objective Questions)
(Unseen Comprehension)
Read the passages given below and answer the questions by choosing the most appropriate answer from the given options that follow (Attempt both passages) :
(a) How you best improve your English depends on where you live, and particularly on, whether or not you live in an English-speaking community. If you hear spoken English every day and mix freely with English speaking people, that is, on the whole, an advantage. On the other hand, it is often confusing to have the whole language poured over you at once. Ideally, a step by step course should accompany or lead up to this experience. It will also help a great deal if you can casily get the sort of English books in which you are interested. To read a lot is essential. It is stupid not to venture outside the examination ‘sct books’ or the text books you have chosen for the intensive study. Read as many books in English as you can, not as study material but for pleasure. Do not choose the more difficult books you find, with the idea of listing and learning as many new words as possible. Choose what is likely to interest you and be sure in advance that it is not too hard. You should not have to be constantly looking up for new words in the dictionary, for that deadens the interest and checks real learning. Look up a word here and there but, as a general policy try to push ahead, guessing what words mean from the context. It is extensive and not intensive reading that normally helps you to get interested in extra reading and thereby improve your English. You should enjoy the feeling, what extensive reading gives, some command of the language. As you read, you will become more familiar with words and sentence patterns you already know; understanding them better as you meet them in more contexts, some of which may differ only slightly from others.

(b) Our entire class is quaking in its boots. The reason, of course, is the forthcoming meeting in which the teachers decide who’ll move up to the next form and who’ll be kept back. Half the class is making bets. G.N. and I laugh ourselves silly at the two boys behind us, C.N. and Jacques, who have staked their entire holiday savings on their bet. From morning to night, it’s “You’re going to pass”, “No, I’m not”, “Yes, you are”, “No, I’m not”. Even G.’s pleading glances and my angry outbursts can’t calm them down. If you ask me, there are so many dummies that about a quarter of the class should be kept back, but teachers are the most unpredictable creatures on earth.
