1. What is system software? Explain its types.
Answer – It directly interacts with computer hardware. It is mainly concerned with the efficient management and control of the computer system. Developers use system software to develop new system programs, and with the help of bootstrapping, these programs can be made portable. System software is machine dependent in nature.
System software is further classified into three categories. The first is the Operating System, which acts as an interface between the user and the hardware and provides different services to the users. The second is System Support Software, which helps in managing and controlling the hardware more efficiently. The third is System Development Software, which supports a programming development environment for the user.
Examples: Compiler, Interpreter, Assembler.

Explain various input devices.
Answer – An input device is a piece of equipment used to provide data and control signals to an information processing system, such as a computer or information appliance. Examples include keyboard, mouse, scanner, camera, joystick, and microphone.
• Keyboard : Keyboard is one of the primary input devices which helps in entering data and commands in a computer or any electronic device by pressing keys.
• Mouse : The mouse helps the user to interact with the computer system through a process called point and click. It is a pointing device that allows users to navigate and click within the user interface.
• Microphone : Microphone captures audio input for recording, voice commands, or voice chats.
• Scanner : Scanner converts physical documents into digital formats.
• Webcam : Webcam is a digital video device that transmits pictures online.
• Joystick : Joystick offers intuitive control for gaming, simulations, and specialized applications.
• Trackball : Trackball is an alternative to a traditional mouse that provides precise control without requiring much desk space.

2. Write steps for (i) Paragraph alignment and (ii) Find and replace a word in a document.
Answer – (i) Steps for Paragraph Alignment
Step 1 : First open MS Word on your PC.
Step 2 : Now, open the document or create a new one in which you want to perform this operation.
Step 3 : Select the paragraph text which you want to make left-aligned.
Step 4 : Go to the Home tab and click on it.
Step 5 : In the Paragraph section of the Home tab, click on the Left Align text button.
Step 6 : The paragraph text is aligned to the left successfully.
• (ii) Steps to Find and Replace a Word
Step 1 : Go to the Home tab.
Step 2 : Select the Replace option from the Editing category.
Step 3 : After clicking on Replace, the Find and Replace window will appear.
Step 4 : Click on the Find tab, enter the word or phrase to be searched, and click on Find Next. Continue selecting Find Next until you reach the word you want to update.
Step 5 : Click on Replace to change the selected word. To update all instances at once, choose Replace All.

Answer – Window Components of MS Word:
• Title Bar : The title bar lies in the middle at the top of the window. It shows the program name and the title of the current document.
• Menu Bar : The menu bar contains different menus that provide access to various commands and options in MS Word.
• Toolbar : The toolbar displays buttons to perform frequently used commands with a single click. Common commands in Word include Save, Undo, Redo, and Print.
• Status Bar : The status bar displays document information as well as the insertion point location. From left to right, it shows details like the total number of pages, number of words, language, etc.
• Scroll Bars : Scroll bars enable you to move up, down, left, or right in a document to view text that is not currently visible on the screen.
• Scroll Box : The scroll box provides a visual indication of your position in the document. You can drag it using the mouse to move the document up or down.
• Task Pane : Task panes give users access to interface controls that help modify documents or emails, or display data from a data source.

3. Explain types of charts in Excel 2010.
Answer – Types of Charts in Excel 2010:
• Column Chart : A column chart is basically a vertical chart used to represent data in vertical bars. It works efficiently with different types of data and is usually used for comparing information.
• Line Chart : Line charts are most useful for showing trends. Using this chart, you can easily analyze the ups and downs in data over time. In this chart, data points are connected with lines.
• Bar Chart : Bar charts use horizontal bars and work like column charts. Unlike column charts, bar charts are plotted horizontally. In other words, bar charts and column charts are opposite to each other.
• Area Chart : Area charts are similar to line charts. Unlike line charts, the gaps below the lines are filled with color in area charts. Area charts make it easy to analyze growth, as they show ups and downs clearly through a line.

Answer – Formatting Options of Excel 2010:
• Number : This option provides a list of formats that control how numbers are displayed in the selected cells.
• Alignment : This option gives various choices for aligning text within each selected cell and controls how the text fits inside the cell.
• Font : This option provides settings to change the appearance, style, and size of text within the selected cells.
• Border : This option determines how the borders of individual cells appear. It allows you to choose the border style, color, and which borders are applied.
• Fill : This option is used to set the background color or pattern of the selected cells.

4. How ‘row’ and ‘column’ can be inserted in a worksheet?
Answer – To insert a column, first select any cell within the column. Then go to Home > Insert > Insert Sheet Columns. Alternatively, you can right-click on the column heading (top of the column) and select Insert.
• To insert a row, select any cell within the row. Then go to Home > Insert > Insert Sheet Rows. Alternatively, right-click on the row number and select Insert.

5. Write steps to change font size and font style of a document.
Answer – To Change Font Size:
Step 1 : Open the Microsoft Word application.
Step 2 : Select the text you want to modify.
Step 3 : Go to the Home tab in the toolbar.
Step 4 : Look for the Font Size drop-down menu and click on it.
Step 5 : Choose the desired font size from the available options.
• To Change Font Style:
Step 1 : Go to the Home tab.
Step 2 : Right-click on any style in the Styles gallery and click Modify.
Step 3 : In the Formatting section, make the required changes such as font style, size, color, alignment, line spacing, or indentation.
Step 4 : Choose whether the style change should apply to the current document or to all future documents.

6. Write steps to print a document.
Answer – Steps to Print a Document:
Step 1 : Select File > Print.
Step 2 : To preview each page, use the forward and backward arrows at the bottom of the page.
Step 3 : Choose the number of copies and any other required print options.
Step 4 : Click on the Print button to print the document.

7. What is slide show?
Answer – Slide Show View shows the presentation as it will appear to the audience when it is run. In this view, one slide is displayed at a time in full-screen mode.

Answer – Outline View shows the contents of the presentation in an outline format. This view is mainly used for organizing and arranging the content of the presentation. Since the contents of all slides (that fit on the page) are shown at once, it becomes easy to view and change the order of topics and subtopics. This view is also one of the most efficient ways to enter the contents of a presentation.

8. Write steps to add animations in a slide.
Answer – Steps to Add Animations in a Slide:
Step 1 : Select the object on the slide that you want to animate.
Step 2 : Go to the Animations tab.
Step 3 : Click on Animation Pane.
Step 4 : Click Add Animation and choose an animation effect.
Step 5 : To apply more animation effects to the same object, select it again, click Add Animation, and choose another animation effect.

9. Write note on types of printers.
Answer – Types of printers:
(i) Impact Printers – In impact printers, the characters are first printed on an ink ribbon which is then struck against the paper. In other words, impact printers use a print head or hammer to print data on paper. The hammer or print head hits the ink ribbon against the paper, and the characters are printed. Some examples of impact printers are dot matrix printer, daisy wheel printer, line printer, and chain printer.
(ii) Non-Impact Printers – Non-impact printers do not use any hammer or print head to strike an ink ribbon. These printers print characters or images without using ribbons. Non-impact printers are often called page printers because they print one full page at a time. Some examples of non-impact printers are laser printer and inkjet printer.

• Supercomputer – Supercomputers are the biggest and fastest computers in terms of data processing speed. They are designed to process a huge amount of data and can handle trillions of instructions or data in just one second.
• Mainframe Computer – Mainframe computers can support hundreds or even thousands of users at the same time. They also support multiple programs simultaneously, so different processes can be executed at the same time.
• Minicomputer – A minicomputer is a medium-size multiprocessing computer. It has two or more processors and can support about 4 to 200 users at one time.
• Workstation – A workstation computer is designed for technical or scientific applications. It has a fast microprocessor, a large amount of RAM, and a high-speed graphic adapter.
• Personal Computer – A personal computer is a general-purpose computer designed for individual use. It consists of a microprocessor as the central processing unit (CPU), memory, input unit, and output unit.

10. What are advantages of Computer?
Answer – Advantages of computer:
• Multitasking – Multitasking is one of the main advantages of computers. A person can do multiple tasks and perform multiple operations at the same time. Computers can calculate numerical problems within a few seconds and are capable of performing millions or even trillions of operations in one second.
• Speed – Today, a computer is not just a calculating device; it plays a vital role in human life. One of the biggest advantages of computers is their incredible speed, which helps people complete tasks in a very short time.
• Cost / Storage of Huge Amount of Data – Computers are a cost-effective solution for storing information. A person can store a huge amount of data at a very low cost. A centralized database for storing information is a major advantage that helps in reducing overall costs.
• Accuracy – One of the essential advantages of computers is that they perform calculations and other tasks with a high level of accuracy.
• Data Security – Computers help in protecting digital data. The protection of data from unauthorized access or loss is known as data security.

Answer – Two secondary memory are:
• Hard Disk – Hard disk is a secondary storage device used in computers to store data permanently. It is made up of a series of circular disks called platters. These platters are arranged one over the other around a spindle, about half an inch apart. The platters of a hard disk are made of non-magnetic materials like aluminium alloy and are coated on both sides with a thin layer (about 10–20 nm) of magnetic material.
• Floppy Disk – A floppy disk is also a type of secondary storage device used to store data and information. It is also known as a floppy diskette or simply floppy. The floppy disk is an old storage device that was used in early computers to store data electronically. It was an expensive memory device at that time, as it was one of the first hardware storage devices developed by IBM in 1967.

11. What is print preview?
